Laboratory of Thin Films and Nanostructured Materials

The main research activity is related to the processing-structure-properties relationships of polymeric thin films and polymer nanocomposites. The main arguments of the scientific production is on the field of charge separation and transportation in new multifunctional carbon-based ensembles and deposition of nanostructured thin films for optoelectronics. In the last years we are particularly interested in molecular recognition as a means to control the composition, orientation, and charge-separation in polymeric nanostructured ensembles.

The main research activities are listed below:

  • Composites interface characterisation
  • Dielectric characterisation (DETA)
  • Surface plasma treatments

he laboratories and equipments are listed below

Laboratory of Surface Treatment of Materials

  1. Plasma (MPA/CVD) equipment for carbon film deposition and surface treatments, spin coating and thermal evaporator for thin film deposition.
  2. DC and AC conductivity are measurable in a broad temperature range.
  3. Climatic chamber (-70°C - 200 °C, vacuum)
  4. Chemical and mechanical polishing equipment for surface preparation
  5. Optical Microscopy, UV visible and IR spectroscopy for the photoageing characterization.
  6. Atomic force microscopy, scanning tunneling microscopy, field emission electron microscopy for the determination of the structure / property relations at the different scale levels.
