XX Cycle phd in Materials TechnologyA PhD in Materials Nanotechnology has been activated at the Materials Engineering Centre in Terni and Prof. Josè M. Kenny is the coordinator thereof. The PhD will provide education in the design, synthesis, development, characterization and application fields of nanostructured materials and in particular, polymeric materials, nanoparticles and polymer matrix nanocomposites. The main research sectors include chemical synthesis, plasma treatments, transformation processing, sensors, optoelectronics, carbon nanotubes, mathematical models and advanced techniques of microscopic and spectroscopic investigations. During the PhD, students will be introduced to fundamental chemical-physical themes, representative models of nanostructured material systems, synthesis processes, production, modifications and diagnostic techniques. The syllabus provides for intensive collaboration activities with overseas consortium partners and with other partners of the NANOFUN-POLY Network of Excellence, organising research training in European Research Centres, PhD schools and an annual International Convention for young PhD students. The PhD in Materials Nanotechnology will provide specific professional skills in Nanotechnology and in particular, nanostructured polymeric materials and structural, functional and multifunctional nanocomposites for advanced applications to young engineers and students that have obtained a degree in Chemistry, Physics and Materials Science. In fact, nanostructured polymeric materials are fundamental to developing new technology that can be considered competitive. The main fields of application that must be mentioned are, among others, telecommunications, optoelectronics, biomaterials, agriculture, automobile and aeronautic fields, building construction, etc. Furthermore, the Master will pay attention to production methods which are not harmful to the environment. |
EUROPEAN MASTER IN MATERIALS NANOTECHNOLOGYIn terms of a convention with the National Interuniversity Consortium for Materials Science and Technology, a 2nd level European Master in Polymeric Materials Nanotechnology has been activated at the Engineering Faculty. The Master’s course is aimed at offering the instruments and experience necessary to enhance the knowledge acquired in the materials sector by students who have graduated in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics and Materials Science. The course is further aimed at providing an update and education on the synthesis, transformation and application of polymeric nanostructural materials and nanocomposites. With an active and constant participation in the courses and the educative activities of the Master, students will acquire the instruments and methodology they require for a better understanding of nanostructured materials in use today and in the past. The Master has been proposed within the framework of the NANOFUN-POLY European Network of Excellence financed by the European Commission and provides for lecturers and students from institutions within member states that are participating in the Network. Access to the course is reserved for students that have obtained a degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics and Materials Science. The Master is open to a minimum of 3 students up to a maximum of 30 students. The course will commence in April for a duration of 1600 hours, divided as follows:
In order to obtain the Master's title, a student must have acquired all the necessary credits as provided for by the formative process (60 credits). The classrooms of Terni's Centro Multimediale and labs of the Faculty of Engineering's Didactic Polo of Terni will be used for the Master's educational activities. The title of a 2nd level "Master's in Polymeric Materials Nanotechnology" will be conferred on the students who pass the final examination. |
Materials Science and Technology MasterIn 2006, a 2nd level Master’s course in “Materials Science and Technology” will again be activated at the Engineering Faculty in terms of a convention with the Logistics Inspectorate of the Italian Army. The course is aimed at offering Engineering graduates the necessary instruments to enhance and improve the knowledge they acquired in the materials science and technology sector during their studies at university and to update and offer further education in the design, production, characterization and application sectors of metallic, ceramic, composite and polymeric materials. Access to the course is limited to students who have graduated in Engineering and who have a specialist degree or graduated under the old regulations. In order to obtain the Master’s title, a student must have acquired all the necessary credits as provided for by the formative process (60 credits). The classrooms and labs of the Faculty of Engineering’s Didactic Polo of Terni will be used for the Master’s educational activities. The title of a 2nd level “Master’s in Materials Science and Technology” will be conferred on the students who pass the final examination. |
